Donald Trump supporters, ignorant as many are of facts or law, do not seem to grasp the implications of the fact that Trump is currently arguing before the Supreme Court of the United States that the President can commit any atrocity of his choice without legal consequence, so long as his allies in the House or Senate resist impeaching and convicting him. What they miss is that should the Court adopt this viewpoint, or whatever rendition of it, it will apply to any President, including Democrat ones. Trump is only concerned about evading accountability for his litany of crimes committed in the lead up to, during, and after his administration. He does not give the slightest regard for the long-term implications, even if the result is decidedly negative for his supporters. His supporters appear equally concerned with the short-term result, loath to see their chosen leader imprisoned — however justly — but cannot comprehend the long-term consequences such immunity might instigate.
